It’s not gonna work. Sunglasses are only for summer and why in the world would I wear normal glasses if I have perfectly good eyes? Just so MetaAI can mine all my most private moments, hell the fuck no.

That is the societal/cultural shift they are going to have to overcome. I just can't see it happening

Especially when they look like a special-needs accouterment. Oy.

When you realise that everybody bends the truth to their will/goals, you can safely begin ignoring what they say and look at what they do, such as keeping their own tech way the hell out of their own children’s reach

‘Nexus’ by Harari talks about this in the opening

Who could have possible thought glasses/headsets could be misused and put the privacy and security of others at risk??!!

Very well said. I agree, this is more like Meta's Zune moment. The Zuckter is running out of ideas.

…pretty hilarious to see a software company (who makes shit software at best) pretend that their pivot into hardware (with a product that has existed over and over again for years with no practical adoption) with a track record of no proof (see oculus etc.) will be a big thing…we need to send zuckerberg surfing with sharks and sell that to netflix…

Damn. That basically summed my article up in four lines. Well said.

Surf with the sharks? Sounds like a leisure activity I would wish on all of those tech bro wankbots.

...no way that doesn't make as much money as squid game...

Outside of techbros, crypto-chuds, and hustle culture evalgelists, are there any normal people who actually want this? I have an Apple Watch on and AirPods in my ears right now so it's not like I'm opposed to a wearable or headphones, but both those devices are useful to me. I can't see any problem I currently have that would be solved by tech glasses.

Another question I don't know the answer to, as someone who wears glasses to see, would Zuckerglasses actually work with prescription lenses? Or do I have to put contacts in and then put my Zuckerglasses on so I can get ads beamed into my brain?

Loved that first line. Yeah, it seems to be that the face is the most sacred body part, and it's just a whole other ballgame to be putting tech on it (see headsets), that's going to take such a huge shift in perception to happen. I can't see it happening myself.

As to your other question... maybe they forgot about that?

♥️ ‘crypto-chuds’

I had to deep dive 'chud' -- and it's better than I'd thought.

Defined by the Reddit kidz as: "A derogatory term for unpleasant right-wingers. The name comes from the 1984 horror film of the same name, where it stood for "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller.""

“At the heart of it is a fundamental problem, one that's potentially insurmountable—the majority of people will not wear smart glasses and will push back against those who do. We've already experienced this with the infamous Google Glass project.”

I predict we will see violence against people who wear glasses when the conspiracy theorists start spreading stories about how they are trafficking children, edm

But all these devices Zuck keeps “inventing” — including the original Facebook — are just really, really creepy.

Jim Amos's avatar

Indeed, people forget that he created Facebook to rate college girls.

Gérard Mclean's avatar

Yup. Once you know that, everything about Zuck and everything he has created, acquired and managed as well as his “vision” of technology and limited knowledge of human behavior as well as the culture of Meta makes sense.
